Waru Patkai Danalaig

Story: This particular print is based on the life cycle of the Waru (greenback turtle). In the centre of the print I show a pair of Solal (mating turtle). The designs surrounding the main image tell about the different threats to these particular species. It starts when humans catch the female turtle as a traditional practice during the solal season. Also the turtle eggs are a delicacy for humans and Goannas. The next stage is the hatchlings fighting to survive the attacking birds and the large fish predators of the deep blue sea. Lastly there is the second traditional practice of catching female turtles for food throughout the year.
